Job Summary

To act as technical expert and independently perform - and train others - on evaluation, functional testing, problem solving, and complex troubleshooting of new or used medical devices according to procedure with high quality standards, within time constraints, and in a positive, team-oriented manner.

Essential Functions
  • Independently perform and lead difficult troubleshooting of various products in a quality manner, according to procedure, within time constraints, and while following all safety procedures/requirements.
  • Train Technicians I and II toward full-competence in their roles.
  • Utilize electronic test equipment to perform or lead functional test and troubleshooting on electronic products and determine the root cause of test failures.
  • Learn circuit functions across products and knows how the system of products interacts. Act as subject matter expert for troubleshooting across products. Knows test systems and circuit functions across products, and how they work.
  • Help improve testing and troubleshooting processes and the consistency of results.
  • Fully understand the application, function, and operation of the full suite of electronic test equipment used for troubleshooting, including a variety of oscilloscopes, meters, generators, power supplies, test fixtures.
  • Work independently of technical assistance. Communicate directly with design engineering, when required, to resolve technical problems.
  • Record product and quality information via computer or in writing, as needed.
  • Participate as a member within the team in a helpful, positive, and constructive manner.
  • Communicate problems or concerns to Team Lead or Supervisor right away.
  • ‘Flex’ work assignments as needed by performing different work in various areas within the company.
  • While wearing appropriate protective equipment, may be assigned to handle or service used/recycled medical devices that have been worn, have been in peoples’ homes, and are not clean.
  • Identify and participate in process improvement opportunities.
  • Act and operate safely at all times; follow safety procedures and requirements.

Required/Preferred Education and Experience
  • 2-year technical degree PLUS electronic test and troubleshooting skills commensurate required and
  • High School Diploma required or
  • GED required
  • 5+ years’ equivalent work experience. required and
  • 3+ years as a Technician II at ZOLL required or
  • 5+ years equivalent technician experience with an excellent history of teamwork, attendance, and performance required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Aptitude to learn semi-rigorous regulatory and process training requirements, demonstrate understanding, and follow instructions exactly as required by medical device regulations.
  • Works at pace in a detail-oriented manner; can follow explicit instructions precisely and consistently throughout the entire work shift while keeping pace with output requirements.
  • Coachable; receives and acts on coaching input from team leads and supervisors in an accepting and positive manner.
  • Must enjoy working with others on a team, contribute to team results, and get along well with others.
  • Since the required training and knowledge testing for medical device processing is conducted in English, this position requires full comprehension of written and spoken English language.
  • Corrected visual acuity of 20/40 or better with the ability to differentiate colors.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Can read and interpret schematics and technical drawings. Understands and can describe how components work in a circuit.
  • Applies solid troubleshooting techniques based on the understanding of circuits and using rigorous methods.

Physical Demands
  • Able to sit and work for 8 to 10 hours with occasional breaks and with occasional periods of moving; may occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity to manipulate small components, use hand tools, and perform light industrial work.
  • 20/20 corrected vision with the ability to differentiate colors.
  • Ability to hear verbal instructions.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

Working Conditions
  • Indoor, light industrial work setting; fast-paced production line environment with high quality expectations, may perform cleaning and service of used medical devices worn externally; weekday or Saturday overtime may be mandatory.
