Systems Engineer
This will initially be a 12 month fixed term contract.
The first few months will be working US hours.
This position will be responsible for physical and virtual servers, storage, IT infrastructure services and disaster recovery. We will work to bring a legacy infrastructure up to modern standards. The IT Infrastructure Engineer is also responsible for the design, build, and maintenance of the Windows or Linux Servers, Virtual environments, and Storage solutions. As the perfect candidate, you will have a vast array of skills supporting physical and virtual environments, storage, and cloud environments. You will work on global infrastructure and help coordinate efforts in Global IT.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Relevant bachelor’s degree with 10+ years industry experience (Enterprise preferred) as well as being VMware Certified and Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate.
- Advanced skills in Linux (installation, hardening, performance tuning, and troubleshooting)
- Expert hands-on experience with AWX/Ansible and deep understanding of infrastructure-as-code principles
- Expert-level knowledge of containerization technologies, particularly Docker and Kubernetes, with the ability to design and guide the migration of enterprise applications and workflows into containerized environments and prepare them for future production use
- Strong automation and scripting abilities
Essential Functions
- Ensure the infrastructure is configured and distributed correctly to meet stability and performance objectives.
- Ensure high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission-critical IT Infrastructure services.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the IT infrastructure environment by monitoring performance, configuration, maintenance, and repair. Apply revisions and updates as appropriate.
- Manage crises and work under pressure to resolve problems.
- Produce clear technical documentation and diagrams.
- Provide 3rd level technical support. Perform troubleshooting as required.
- Work with team members, equipment vendors, and consultants to install, repair, or reconfigure IT Infrastructure components.
- Deploy and manage Windows/Linux/Unix servers.
- Deploy and manage Enterprise storage solutions (SAN/NAS)
- Maintain and monitor servers, virtual platforms and infrastructure services
- Maintain and monitor the performance of network switches
- Manage and maintain a disaster recovery environment and vendor relationships.
- Champion automation for proactive self-management of infrastructure and deployment. (PowerShell)
- Develop a sound understanding of IT operations and related applications, IT systems, and business-related processes and procedures.
- Provide periodic after-hours on-call support and respond to system failures
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proven working experience in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting UNIX/Linux/Windows-based environments.
- Strong cloud experience with Azure and/or AWS is preferred.
- Strong Microsoft Office 365 platform experience (OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, etc.)
- Understanding MDM and MAM solutions such as Microsoft Intune
- Strong automation skills using PowerShell.
- Basic knowledge of LAN/WAN concepts; familiarity with configuring Cisco, Juniper and PAN platforms is a plus
- Experience with monitoring systems.
